Our client is a leading manufacturer of products in the engineering and construction fields.  They have a large manufacturing facility based in East Dorset and supply to a wide range of private and public sector organisations. The Company currently has an opening for a proven Lead Design Engineer with construction industry experience to join their growing design team. The primary purpose of this role is to refine and systemise current designs in order to produce a standard cost effective solution for client demands. The role will also involve heading up projects and supervising other designers.


Key Responsibilities:

·         To produce imaginative, high quality, technically-accurate, cost-effective detail design solutions to match the requirements of both production and structural constraints

·         To produce accurate standard bills of materials to allow purchasing of generic solutions in a timely manner.

·         To own the role of continuous design improvement throughout the factory built element. To act as a conduit and enabler for ideas from all elements of production.

·         To become a product technical expert, continually embracing new technologies and developments and ensuring a good working knowledge of all elements of the product.

·         To cultivate relationships with internal/external sources of technical expertise that will be necessary to support the ongoing success of the business.

·         To have and maintain a good working knowledge of robust details for example NHBC and building regulations and help incorporate these in the design.

·         To develop a good understanding of constraints / needs of M & E within a building and assist in designing accordingly.



·         Experienced and proficient user of AutoCad 2D. Must be able to produce accurate drawings independently and in a timely manner.

·         Good experience of using 3D CAD software

·         Ideally Degree level however HNC/HND will be considered with the right experience / track record or equivalent tertiary qualification.

·         Knowledge of light steel / steel construction highly desirable, particularly constraints of suppliers when considering sections.

·         Experience of successfully delivering imaginative design solutions.

·         Must have some management experience although role is 80% drawing

·         Must have strong practical understanding of the design process


The position will attract a base salary of £35-45K with generous pension scheme after qualification period.
