Our client is a leading manufacturer of products in the engineering and construction fields.  They have a large manufacturing facility based in East Dorset and supply to a wide range of private and public sector organisations. Due to significant growth within the business they have created a new position of Continuous Improvement Engineer to work within the Operations team to initiate and / or implement small projects and improvement initiatives, designed to drive the engineering plan of improved quality, cost and capacity. 

 

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Reporting to Director of Manufacturing Operations, you will provide assistance to the Manufacturing Manager and Cell Leaders to achieve maximum performance.
  • Implement continuous improvement throughout the organisation using Lean principles.
  • Kaizen facilitator.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing, quality and assembly issues using failure mode effect analysis (FMEA).
  • Define, refine and improve existing processes including ITP (Inspection and test plans).
  • Look at Product design for ease of manufacture/ assembly, capacity, efficiency and flow design, production processing, problem solving.
  • Review new product design for manufacturability.
  • Liaison between Design and Production.

  • You will be a critical part of the decision making group within Operations and will help shape the department’s vision & direction 
  • We are looking for someone who has excellent analytical, organisation and communication skills and a real eye for detail
  • Strong organisation and time management skills

 

Required experience

  • Time served engineering apprenticeship (or equivalent).
  • Experience in mechanical assembly, factory processes and construction
  • Demonstrable evidence of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience in best practice within engineering
  • Evidence of world class manufacturing techniques: 5S, Root Cause Analysis, Poka-yoke, Kaizen etc. Must be able to tailor knowledge to audience
  • Computer skills: requires proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to read Drawings
  • Strong ability to work well with others in a team atmosphere
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required with demonstrated ability   to interact effectively with individuals at all levels in the organisation
  • Ability to draw in AutoCad a distinct advantage

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with ISO 9001 and/or 14001 development environment
  • Training in CAD and or Visio
  • Training in Lean manufacturing principles

 

The position will attract a base salary of C£35-55K with the ability to join the company bonus and generous pension scheme after a qualification period.
